How to get to us

If coming by train, coming both from London Waterloo and Exeter you alight at Sherborne station preferably arriving at approximately 3:30pm.  For some it may be more convenient and cheaper to come to Yetminster (request stop) or Chetnole (request stop) stations on the Bristol to Weymouth line.  The friary can meet you by arrangement in advance at these stations.

When coming from Sherborne Station you can catch the X11 bus which runs approx. every 2 hours between Sherborne Station and Dorchester South Station.  The nearest bus stop on this route is by the church in Minterne Magna, a village 2 ½ miles south east of the friary.  We can meet you there if arranged in advance.

When coming from London by coach we recommend Berries Buses that run from Hammersmith in London to Yeovil Bus Station where we can meet you by arrangement in advance.  Please check their timetables on www.berryscoaches.co.uk.

You can find taxies waiting at Sherborne train station and Yeovil bus station.

For cyclists, there is usually room to put your bike on the Bristol to Weymouth train without reservation.  There are usually unreserved bike places on off peak trains from London for those who would like to cycle the nine miles from Sherborne Station.

For those arriving by car, this is the best way to reach Hilfield:

From Yeovil take the A37 Yeovil to Dorchester Road. After approximately 8 miles turn left at Wardon Hill (it is signposted Batcombe, Mintern Magna). At the T-Junction turn right. Travel approximately 2.5 miles then take the second – sharp – turn on the left. This last half mile to the friary is a steep, narrow hill. The friary is at the bottom of the lane.

From Dorchester take the A37 Dorchester to Yeovil Road. After approximately 9 miles turn right at Wardon Hill (it is signposted Batcombe, Mintern Magna). At the T-Junction turn right. Travel approximately 2.5 miles then take the second – sharp – turn on the left. This last half mile to the friary is a steep, narrow hill. The friary is at the bottom of the lane.
